As a foreigner, opening a bank account in Thailand is a bit different due to banks’ policies. Some banks ask for apartment/condo rental documents of the foreigners whereas some banks not require. But this things are hard to say because their policies are always changing.
I arrived to Thailand at July and applied bank account at Bangkok bank. Bangkok bank is easy to apply and they not ask too much documents to open bank account.
There are many banks in Thailand to open bank account. According to my experience, Bangkok bank and Kasikorn bank are easy to open and not require too much documents.
Before you open the bank accounts in Thailand, you should prepare the following things.
- Copies of Your Passport book
- Recommendation letter from your Embassy.
- Recommendation letter from your company/school in Thailand
- Tourist friendly bank branches
If you open bank account at Bangkok bank, you just need to take your passport book and recommendation letter from your Embassy. No need to take letter from your company or school.
But if you open bank account at Kasikorn bank, you need to take passport book, letter from Embassy and letter from your company/school in Thailand.
The important thing you need to know is to open bank account at tourist friendly bank branches. Because the employees in some branches can’t communicate with English language and so they can’t open bank account for you and they will point to next branch to open bank account.
So I recommend you to go directly bank’s head office and open the bank account.
Thailand’s banking system is amazing and you can transfer money to any banks in Thailand. No need to pay any additional charges and it is totally free.
In this post, I talk about Bangkok bank and Kasikorn bank. Because the other banks require more documents and based on your Visa type.
